Google Alerts Isn't Enough — Here's What It Misses

Google Alerts is a fine starting point, but it only surfaces what Google indexes and deems notable — it routinely misses reviews, forum threads, social posts, and anything behind a login.

It also can't tell you about ranking changes: a damaging old article climbing from page three to page one triggers no alert at all, and that's often the change that matters most.

Real monitoring layers multiple sources: search rank tracking, review platform feeds, social listening, and dark-web scanning for exposed personal data.

Whatever stack you use, the test is simple: would you know within 48 hours if something damaging appeared? If not, you have a gap.
